Harold Wayne Tedford, age 80, died Saturday morning December 9, 2017 at Jackson General Hospital.
Mr. Tedford was born March 6, 1937 in the Sweetlips Community of Chester County the son of the late Daniel S. and Blanche Brewer Tedford. He attended Chester County schools. He began work for the Tennessee Department of Transportation in 1956 and married Zara Donna Smith in 1957. They made their home in the Sweetlips Community. Mrs. Tedford died in 1978.
He married Brenda Messer in 1979 and they continued to make their home in the Sweetlips Community.
Mr. Tedford worked on the road crew in Hwy marking, was a foreman for over 30 years, and then superintendent of the Hwy marking department for all of West Tennessee, serving 29 counties until he retired in 2003.
He was a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #485. He was also a member of the Sweetlips Volunteer Fire Department, having donated the land for the fire department and the Sweetlips Community Center.
After retiring from the TDOT he logged and drove a truck for Williams Trucking. He enjoyed fishing, playing Rook, and riding the four-wheeler. He had always raised cattle on the farm. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Messer Tedford, two sons; Michael Tedford and wife Katrina of Owings, MD and Jimmy Tedford and wife Teresa of Henderson, a daughter Regina Tignor and husband Tommy of Luray, a step-son Richard Alexander of Corinth, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and an uncle, Robert Brewer of Henderson, who was more like a brother to Harold Wayne.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Ricky Tedford, Marcus Kelley and Don Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetlips Cemetery. There will be Masonic rites Monday evening at 8 PM at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at SFD – Casey Chapel from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday.
