Harold (Bob) Vetter was born October 10, 1932 in Tennessee City, TN the son of the late Benjamin F. (Ben) and Alva Green Vetter.
Mr. Vetter graduated from Dickson High School in 1951. After graduation he worked as a carpenter's apprentice for Cowan Lumber Company in Dickson. In 1953 Mr. Vetter was inducted into the United States Army. He was trained as a combat medic and served on the island of Okinawa, Japan, attaining the rank of corporal. After his discharge from military service in 1955 Mr. Vetter returned to Dickson and began work as a lineman for Bell Telephone Company. He was later transferred to Memphis where he met Betty J. Wilson, who would become his wife on October 10, 1959. Mr. Vetter worked for Bell Telephone for 39 1/2 years, retiring as a cable splicer. He served 10 years as Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster for Selmer Troop 32, BSA as well as a Troop in Memphis. He also completed Wood Badge training and was a member of the Owl Patrol. Mr. Vetter coached Pee Wee Football, and was a member of the Civitan Club and American Legion Post 162. He was an avid outdoorsman; hiking, backpacking, golf, hunting, and fishing were some of his favorite pursuits. He also enjoyed the study of genealogy, traveling to Germany to learn the history of his ancestors. He was thorough and meticulous in everything he did. Mr. Vetter was a faithful member of the Bethel Springs church of Christ, where he formerly served as an Elder. He also served as an Elder for the Eastside and Adamsville congregations in prior years.
Mr. Vetter departed this life on March 7, 2019 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee at the age of 86 Years, 4 Months, 25 Days. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty J. (Wilson) Vetter of Bethel Springs, TN; two sons, Harold Clay Vetter and wife Sharon of Cookeville, TN and Stephen Vetter and wife Tammy of Bethel Springs, TN; four grandchildren: Hunter Vetter and wife Linzi of Cookeville, TN, Holly (Vetter) Jones and husband Terry of Bethel Springs, TN, Bret Vetter and wife Savannah of Cincinnati, OH, and Colton Vetter of Cookeville, TN; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Vetter was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.
