Helen Sedillo Padilla, 85, passed away peacefully with her daughter Edna by her side on Friday November 23, 2018. She was born in Hondo, NM to Petro Otero Sedillo and Idalia Sanchez Sedillo. Helen was married to Nicholas C. Padilla until his passing in 1968. They had three children Edna, Nick and Joy.
She was respected woman, a loving mother, homemaker, grandmother, a great-grandmother, sister, daughter and an Aunt “Nena”. Helen spent many years being a homemaker. She spent majority of her life cooking in her kitchen for all her family and friends to sit around the table and enjoy each other. After the passing of her husband on 1968, she had to learn to drive and support her children. Helen spent over 30 years serving others and was a Bartender at a local bar “Pumphouse Saloon” and a package store at “Quality Liquors”. Through all her years of being a homemaker and a provider, Helen loved to serve in her own kitchen. She always had fresh homemade tortillas, beans and chile and much more food to serve at her table. She was a beautiful blessing to all who came to her home with open arms and a place to sleep. She is deeply loved and missed by many.
Preceding Helen in death was her husband, Nicholas C. Padilla; daughter, Joy Padilla; parents, Petro and Idalia Sedillo, sister, Della Sedillo; brother, James Sedillo; sister-in-law, Margaret Sedillo; niece, Selina Sedillo; and nephews, Jamie Sedillo and Michael Jaramillo.
Survivors left to remember Helen “Nena” is her daughter, Edna Bryant married to Edward Bryant of Bolivar, TN; son, Nick W. Padilla married to Josephina of Roswell, NM; brothers, Gilbert Sedillo married to Bennie of Dexter, NM, Ruben E. Sedillo of Dexter, NM, and Joe Sedillo married to Helen of Roswell, NM; grandsons, James Padilla of Roswell, NM, Vicente Salcido II married to Priscilla of Roswell, NM, Mario Otero of Albuquerque, NM and Nick Padilla married to Amanda of Roswell, NM; grand-daughters, Frances Tapia married to Gabriel of Denver, CO, Stephanie Rico married to Ronnie Rico of Reno, NV, and Elena Padilla of Baton-Rouge, LA; niece, Alicia Bernal of Bernalillo, NM; sister-in-law, Fita Padilla of Roswell, NM; and an aunt, Lucy Telles of Alamogordo, NM. Helen had numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A Memorial service will be held for Helen on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. A reception for the family will be held after the burial at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 3201 S. Sunset Ave., Roswell, NM 88203 from 3 PM until 5:30 PM. Anyone wishing to bring food may have it at the hall before 3 pm that day.
