Howard "Pop" Overton, 78, of Cloverport, passed away Thursday, April 29 at his home.
The husband of Jean Fuller Overton, who survives, he was a carpenter and part owner of Overton Repairs, having been disabled since 2007. He was born, Friday, August 14, 1942 in Hardeman County, son of the late Lawrence and Sallie Maude Overton. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army from 1969-1972 and was a life Member of VFW #2949 in Bolivar. He enjoyed country music, sitting on the front porch, cooking out, especially frying fish, guns and being around his family. He loved all of them greatly, but especially loved having his first great grandchild, whom he called his 'mate'. Mr. Overton was a member of Cloverport Baptist Church for about 40 years.
In addition to his wife, whom he married on April 29, 1972, survivors include a daughter, Janifier Douglas (Jay) of Toone; sons, Craig Overton (Terri) of Whiteville, James Ester (Linda) of Middleton, Joel Ester (Jackie) of Toone, John Overton (Melissa) of Toone, Jeffery Seros (Norlene) of Michigan, and Randy Overton of Phoenix, AZ; his granddaughter, whom he considered a daughter, Jeannie Bryant (Robert) of Toone; a cousin whom he considered a sister, Tammy Beatse (Russell) of Collierville; a special grandchild, Victoria (Speedy) Overton and his 'mate', a great grandchild, Brandon Boone; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt, Lou Nell Cupples.
