Hugh Carnell Breeden

Mr. Breeden passed away Monday night at his home.

A native of Bolivar, he lived almost all of his life in Hardeman County. His parents were the late Elmo Hugh and Birdie Cox Breeden. Mr. Breeden grew up working with his father as he managed the Whit Nelms farm. For a time, he worked in Memphis where he lived with his uncle.

Mr. Breeden served in the U. S. Army during World War 2 in the Philippines and Korea. Upon returning from service, he drove a taxi in Bolivar and that is when he met his future bride, Viola Wooten. The two of them were married on Thursday, January 22, 1948 and spent 52 years together before her death on Friday, May 19, 2000.

In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Breeden, along with Theo and Ruby Wiggins, founded Frostyland, a popular drive in restaurant in Bolivar. Also, during this time, Mr. Breeden worked for the tannery where he was employed for 20 years. In 1972, the Breedens bought the Town House restaurant which they operated together until 1985. A faithful member of Whiteville First Baptist Church, Mr. Breeden was also a deacon there. He was a cancer survivor for 15 years following his diagnosis in 2002.

He leaves behind his son, Gregg (Bonnie) Breeden of Whiteville; and his grandson, Daniel Breeden and his fiance', Ashley Lulo. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Louise Hodum; and his brother, Kenneth Breeden.
