Iona Nell Darby Ayers

Iona Nell Darby Ayers was born August 12, 1933 in Cypress Inn, TN, the daughter of the late Hubert and Lydia Wright Darby. Mrs. Ayers departed this life on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center, Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 85 Years, 2 Months, 24 Days.

She was united in marriage to James Monroe Ayers on May 4, 1955 and he preceded her in death on October 27, 1990.

Mrs. Ayers was a homemaker and a member of the Cloverdale Baptist Church, Cloverdale, Alabama.

She is survived by daughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Kanable, husband, John, Baxter, TN and Sharon Barrier, Waynesboro, TN; grandchildren, Sonya Hamilton, husband, Greg, Tamera Lynch, husband, Chris and TaTera Roe; great- grandchildren, Hunter and Ethan Haddock, C. J. and Aubrey Mae Lynch and Aden Youngs; brothers, Paul and Lowell Darby and sister, Mae May all of Florence, AL; neices and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by a son, Mark Ayers; brothers, Vernon, Junior and B.L. Darby and sister, Elgene Tidwell.

Services will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with William Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery, Cypress Inn, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Brewer, Mark Brewer, Joey May, Keith Darby, Travis Copeland and Hunter Haddock with Ethan Haddock as honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to thank those at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, TN for their care of Mrs. Ayers.
