On Sunday December 5, 2021, Ira Lofton Delaney of Sardis, Tennessee passed peacefully at the age of 94. He was born on June 7, 1927, in Saltillo, Tennessee to Charlie Allen (Mr. Charlie) Delaney and Jocie Lee (Pearson) Delaney. In 1958, he was united in marriage to Martha Jo Kelley, who preceded him in death.
Ira was born into a family of skilled craftsmen, farmers, and timbermen. The Delaney Family’s calling card was their handiwork and hard work. Ira continued that legacy and when people think of, or mention him and his brothers, these are the images that come to mind.
Ira was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Ray and is survived by a brother, Edward. He is also survived by his and Ms. Jo’s children: Danny Kelley (Marilyn), Ricky and Gary Delaney, two grandsons, Joey Kelley (Misty), Marc Kelley (Lisa), five great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Lauren, Kendell, Tyler and Logan and one great-great-grandchild, Maddox.
Ira never officially retired, he continued to cut timber until he was no longer able to work. Ira had a pioneer spirit and was from the salt of the earth. His family is blessed to have witnessed the quiet example he set every day.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 9, 2021, at the Hurricane Primitive Baptist Church, Sardis, Tennessee from 5 PM to 9 PM. Then on Friday, from 9 AM until the funeral at 1 PM. A Graveside service will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Saltillo, Tennessee.
The family request that no food be brought to the church due to ongoing public safety concerns. The use of masks’ is encouraged.
