Mrs. Irene McKelvey Rogers passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at home in Middleton.
Born in Middleton on Friday, October 7, 1932 to the late Leslie and Lila Maude Foster McKelvey, she married Mr. Roy William Brown on Valentine's Day, 1953. Mr. Brown departed this life February 5, 1973. On July 15, 1977, she was united in marriage to Johnny T. Rogers, who passed away June 7, 2009. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by grandson, William Shields; brother, Willard McKelvey; two sisters, Vadie May and Ollie Faye McKelvey; son-in-law, Lynn Shields; two brothers-in-law, C. D. Alsup and R. C. Kennamore; step-daughter, Joann Chappel; and two step-sons, Millard and Lloyd Rogers.
Mrs. Rogers was a long-time food service worker with both Middleton Elementary School and Middleton High School. A faithful member of the Rogers Springs Church of Christ, she liked participating in their Women's Bible Study Group. In her leisure time, she enjoyed making quilts, many of which, she sold far and wide. She also loved gardening, her flowers and Sunday dinners with family. Except for four years in Tippah County, MS, she lived her entire life in Hardeman County.
She leaves as survivors, three daughters, Rosemary (Franklin) Shields of Middleton, Diane (Joey) Jackson of Walnut, MS and Brenda (special friend, Bo Jordan) Shields of Middleton; three sons, Dennis (Shirley) Brown of Bolivar, David (Vanessa) Brown of Walnut and Robert (special friend, Wanda Sisco) Brown of Middleton; two sisters, Kay Alsup and Sue Kennamore, both of Middleton; brother, L. C. (Margaret) McKelvey of Middleton; three step-daughters, Virginia (Mike) Thomas, Shirley (David) Gerstel and Linda (Steve) Jones, all of Moline, IL; seven grandchildren, Roy (Melanie) Brown, Kenny (Nikki) Brown, Jody (Shonna) Jackson, Jonathan (Jess) Jackson, William David (Dana) Brown, Justin Morphis and Brittany (Chris) Mathis; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and special niece, Gail McKelvey.
