J. W. "Jake" Cossar

Mr. J. W. "Jake" Cossar, age 77 of Hickory Valley, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 24, 2018 in Olive Branch, Mississippi.

He was born July 27, 1940 in Hickory Valley to the late Jewel Wesley and Martha Frances McCommon Cossar and lived most of his life in Hardeman County. Mr. Cossar was a 1958 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and was a driver for Roadway Transport for 30 years.

On October 19, 1962, he married Rebecca Young Cossar. They were married 43 years at the time of her death in 2005. Mr. Cossar was a member of the Enon Baptist Church and had attended West Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a member of Bolivar Masonic Lodge #608 for 40 years, Memphis Scottish Rite and was a veteran of the Tennessee National Guard. In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening and watching old westerns on television.

He is survived by a daughter, Julie (Ben) Jones of Martin, TN; a son, Todd Macklin Cossar of Hickory Valley; a granddaughter, Rebecca Blair Jones of Martin; five sisters, Margie (Dick) Mignard, Evelyene Hoover (Bill), and Dianne (Don) Doles, all of Hickory Valley, Peggy Goodman of Bolivar and Ruby Maddox of Memphis; and three brothers, Mickey (Geneva) Cossar of Hickory Valley, Charles (Lorene) Cossar of Bolivar and Jimmy (Linda) Cossar of Bolivar.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Cossar was preceded in death by an infant son, J. W. Cossar, Jr.; and a sister, Hazel Yopp.
