Jackie Butts, 77, of Bolivar, passed from this life Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Bolivar General Hospital.
She was born September 16, 1944, in Lompoc, California, daughter of the late Jack Del Grande and Joycelyn Wallis Del Grande and had lived in Memphis prior to moving to Bolivar 24 years ago. She married Larry Powell Butts on July 2, 1972, and was a very supportive career Navy wife, working as a squadron ombudsman while her husband was deployed. After completing Eureka High School, she attended dental school in San Diego, California, where she was certified as a Dental Assistant. She attended State Technical Institute at Memphis for 2 years where she was on the President's or Dean's list every quarter. She was retired from Southwest Tennessee Community College where she had worked as a cashier. Her husband describes her as "loving, and the easiest person to get along with". She loved people, especially strangers, hugging and waving at everyone that she could reach, and therefore did not understand the restrictions imposed by the Covid outbreak. Jackie came from a large family herself, consisting of 3 brothers and 5 sisters. When someone spoke of Jackie, the word most often used was "sweet". She also was a true animal lover, especially her beloved 'Lubbie'. Jackie accepted the Lord as her Savior in 1976 and attended First Baptist Church in Pocahontas when she was able.
In addition to her husband, survivors include 3 children, Michael Butts (Kelly) of Colorado, Angela Martin (Rick) of Michigan and Amy Kirby (Turtle) of Arizona; 7 grandchildren, one of whom preceded her in death; 2 sisters and a brother. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Pocahontas First Baptist Church.
