James Charlie "Bill" Plunk was born July 28, 1933 in the woods in Crump, TN, the son of the late Aubrey and Ruby Green Plunk. He was united in marriage to Mollie L. McCasland on February 11, 1957.
Bill worked for Brown Shoe Company in Selmer for 7 years and retired as road supervisor from TDOT after 27 years. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Thule, Greenland. He also served as Hardin County Commissioner for 8 years.
In his younger years, he was an avid coon hunter and served as secretary treasurer of the Coon Hunter Association in Hardin and McNairy Counties. He enjoyed raising huge-feed-the-neighborhood gardens along with tending to his chickens, goats and horses. He was humorous, a wonderful and somewhat colorful storyteller and always had time for conversation.
He was a wonderful husband, daddy and papaw. His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Plunk departed this life on October 29, 2019 at the age of 86 Years, 3 Months, 1 Day. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mollie Plunk of Adamsville, TN; five sons: Ronnie Plunk and wife Doris of Savannah, TN, Eddie Plunk of Adamsville, TN, Stevie Plunk of Adamsville, TN, Stacey Plunk of Adamsville, TN, John Plunk of Nashville, TN; three daughters: Peggy Bakelman and husband Keith of Saltillo, TN, Patricia Roland and husband Dale of Saltillo, TN, Mary McCullar and husband Ashley of Bethel Springs, TN; two brothers, Jerry Wayne Plunk and wife Betty of Adamsville, TN, Mike Plunk and wife Mary Gwen of Adamsville, TN; two sisters: Linda Plunk Rinks of Owatonna, MN, Sandra Plunk Curlin and husband Larry of Jackson, TN; four sisters-in-law, Doris Plunk of Pickwick, TN, Jodie Plunk of Savannah, TN, Jo Hammock and husband William of Tupelo, MS, Linda Gant and husband Gene of Pickwick, TN; 18 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren; a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Plunk was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Don Plunk, William "Dink" Plunk; a sister, Dorothy Lee Lawson; a great-grandson, Cory Lockard; in-laws, Chester and Lila Hinton; brothers-in-law, Wayne Hinton and W.H. Rinks; sister-in-law, LouBelle Matney-Boyd.
