Rev. James (Jack) Chessor was born July 7, 1936 in McEwen, TN the son of the late Samuel Walker and Bessie Rice Chessor.
He was first united in marriage to Peggy Jean Mitchell. To this union were born four sons and two daughters. Peggy Jean preceded him in death on March 18, 1969. On August 29, 1969, he was united in marriage to Betty Charlene Briley. To this union two sons were born.
Rev. Chessor attended a one room school at Bold Springs near McEwen, TN. He began his ministry as the Pastor for Addison Pentecostal Church in Addison, AL. He also pastored at Pocahontas Church of the Lord Jesus Christ for 30 years. Rev. Chessor was a man accustomed to physical labor; he worked as a timberjack for Williams and Bevis Sawmill in Savannah for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed playing softball with his sons, but his favorite activity was spending time with his beloved family. Rev. Chessor was a faithful member of Theo Holiness Church.
Rev. Chessor departed this life on March 28, 2019 in Selmer, TN at the age of 82 Years, 8 Months, 21 Days. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Betty Charlene (Briley) Chessor of Pocahontas, TN; six sons: Ricky Chessor and wife Janet of Ripley, MS, Greg Chessor and wife Wanda of Selmer, TN, Timmy Chessor of Walnut, MS, Joel Chessor and wife Michelle of Brighton, TN, Shane Chessor and wife Angel of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Stevie Chessor and fiancee Shelley of Pocahontas, TN; two daughters, Lisa Huggins and fiance Robert of Savannah, TN and Lorrie Clifton and husband Dale of Pocahontas, TN; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam Chessor and wife Mary Ann of Savannah, TN and Pat Chessor and wife Kay of Michie, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Rev. Chessor was preceded in death by three brothers: Roy Chessor, Willie Brown Chessor, and Waddell Chessor; and two sisters, Francis Little and Jolene Work.
