James David "Cotton" Taylor

James David Taylor, age 82, of Bolivar, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

He was born in Hardeman County to the late Alfred and Hettie Glidewell Taylor and lived his whole life here. He attended school in Hornsby and Bolivar and on May 29, 1959 was married to the former Linda M. Doyle. They had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past Sunday.

Mr. Taylor was a long-time meat cutter for several local grocery stores and retired in 2004. His church membership was at Dixie Hills Baptist Church where he had served as church secretary and, in younger years, coached softball and helped with the youth group. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, fishing, camping, being outdoors and mowing his yard. He dearly loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his church family. Mr. Taylor also served in the Tennessee National Guard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sheila King (Dennis) of Bolivar and Carol Austin (Peabody) of Silerton; two sisters, Jean Sykes of Bolivar and Alice Taylor Goodman of Loretto, TN; one brother, Lavern Taylor (Frances) of Toone; three grandchildren, Christy Young (B. J.), Steven Austin and Jessica Prather (Cody); five great-grandchildren, Rush and Taylor Young and, Collins, Lyla and Huntley Prather; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

He was also preceded in death, by a sister, Vernice Vickers; and two brothers, Vernon and Charles Taylor.

Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
