James Harold Allen, 77, of Memphis, departed this life Tuesday morning, September 18, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Allen was born Tuesday, July 1, 1941 to the late Tim Willis and Lillian Matlida Davis Allen in Tippah County, Mississippi. When he turned 18, he moved to Memphis where he remained. He was a veteran of the United States Army until he was injured in Vietnam. He worked as a security supervisor for several trucking lines including Jones Truck Line, M.S. Carriers and Swift Transportation. A longtime member and strong supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous, he introduced himself at meetings using his full name and remained a member for over 20 years, speaking for many groups in the Memphis area and sponsoring many individuals.
Survivors include his daughter, Sherri Taylor (Anthony) of Warren, MI; son, Tony Morgan of Ripley, Mississippi; stepdaughters, Stephanie Bryan of Mooresvile, North Carolina, Debra McClain of Hernando, Mississippi, and Tammy Robertson of Memphis; stepson, William Russell Bryan of Memphis; sister, Dorothy Jean Spencer of Memphis; former wife, Carolyn F. Traybert of Mooresville, North Carolina; former wife, Norma Robertson of Memphis; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell James Allen and Kerry Morgan; and a brother, Bobby Allen.
