James Hugh Gentry, 83, of Millington, passed away Monday at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis.
He was born January 28, 1938, son of the late Hugh and Sally Swinford Gentry. He was a former EMT and attended Shelby State Community College, eventually becoming a licensed refrigeration engineer and boiler engineer, mainly working at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis. He also was a former volunteer with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Elise Gentry of Millington; a daughter, Ruby Carol Gentry of Union City, TN; four sons, Chuck Jones (Teresa), Chad, Cory and Colin Jones (Autumn Renee); six grandchildren, Callie Jones, Bentley Bonnas, Jr. Jones, Octavia Jones, Emeri Jones and Aurora Jones; and two sisters, Doris Gentry Connor and Shirley Gentry Hinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Gentry, Mary Gentry Pierce, Dwight Gentry, Paul Gentry, Sophia Gentry Whitlow and Elizabeth Gentry Elliott.
