James Thomas "Pete" Turnbow

December 9, 1945 — May 14, 2019

Bro James Thomas "Pete" Turnbow was born December 9, 1945 in Waynesboro, TN to the union of the late James Floyd and Annetta Maxine Bundrant Turnbow. After the death of his mother at a young age, he was adopted by his maternal grandmother Flora Elizabeth Bundrant and his aunt, Lucy Imogene Bundrant Riley and Clovis Wilson Riley. He was united in marriage to Mattie Frances Dixon on Sunday February 5, 1967. Bro Pete was an ordained minister in the Muscle Shoals Stateline Freewill Baptist Association for almost 50 years. In this time, he pastored Williams Chapel 30 years, Cypress Oak Grove 4 years and Liberty Chapel 10 years. He also served as an evangelist for revivals. During his ministry he became acquainted with many fine people with whom he cherished their friendship. Bro Turnbow was a member of Millrock Freewill Baptist Church, Proudly served his country in the United States Army where he spent 6 months on American Soil and 18 months in Germany, and was a member of the American Legion Post 254 in Collinwood. He was a lifelong mechanic working in several different locations including Thorton Chrysler Dodge in Florence, AL for 19 years and then retired from the Waynesboro School Bus Garage after 13 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. Bro Turnbow departed this life on May 14, 2019 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, making his stay in this life some 73 Years, 5 Months, and 5 Days.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mattie Frances Dixon Turnbow of Collinwood, TN; two sons James Thomas "Jimmy" Turnbow Jr. and wife Kara of Collinwood, TN; Steven Scott Turnbow and wife Misty of Collinwood, TN; 4 Grandsons Steven Chase Turnbow (Katie), Sawyer Blaine Turnbow, Spencer Trey Turnbow, and Kason Isaac Turnbow; a granddaughter Janson Mercer; 2 half brothers Terry Turnbow of Grove Hill, AL and Boyd Turnbow of IL; a half sister Eileen Fuller of Whatley, AL and his step mother Betty Turnbow of Grove Hill, AL as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his guardians Flora Elizabeth Bundrant, Lucy Imogene Bundrant Riley and Clovis Wilson Riley, sister Betty Joyce Rich, half brothers Walter and Eugene Turnbow, and a nephew Randy Casteel.

Services will be held on May 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Bro Jimmy McGee and Bro Joel Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the Shawnettee Memory Gardens at Collinwood. Visitation will be Wednesday May 15 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Thursday May 16 from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm.

Pallbears will include: Chase Turnbow, Sawyer Turnbow, Spencer Turnbow, Cody Curry, Wayland Lowe, Garin Morton, Drew Casteel & Preston Casteel. Honorary pallbearers will be Kason Turnbow, Jaxon Lowe, and the Wayne County High School Baseball Team.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations be made to one of the following: The Cancer Society, The Gideons, St. Jude's, or the Butterfly Foundation.
