Joe Burton Baker

Joe Burton Baker, 91, of Middleton, passed away Sunday evening, January 17, 2021 at Bolivar General Hospital.

He was born Sunday, January 27, 1929, in Bolivar, son of the late Allie B. and Eva Ann Burnette Baker and lived his life here in the county. He married Colene Eloise Jackson in 1948 and she preceded him in death on February 18, 2010. He worked in the cotton ginning industry but mainly was a logger in the timber industry. He enjoyed gardening and was well known as a buyer/seller, always willing to make a good trade. Mr. Baker was a member of Brint's Chapel Baptist Church, and was instrumental in the actual building of the church house.

Survivors include a son, Jackie Baker of Middleton; two brothers, Bruce and Donald Baker, both of Bolivar; five grandchildren, Chris, Daniel and Jessica Baker, Willie Crowley and Erin Sullivan; and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Aubrey & Forrest Baker; 2 sisters, Helen Stanley and Bonnie Breeden; and two sons, Frankie and Tommy Baker. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to Brints Chapel Baptist Church.
