John "Buck" Burkhead

JOHN ‘BUCK’ BURKHEAD
Henderson, TN: John Franklin “Buck” Burkhead, age 85, passed away August 26, 2020 at the Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born November 30, 1934 in the Montezuma area of Chester County, the son of the late John Andrew and Lula Bell Waldrop Burkhead. He attended Chester County schools. He married Shirley Austin in 1963. They made their home in Henderson.
He worked and retired with TDOT out of the Jackson District Office, painting highway lines and installing road signage.
Buck was an avid hunter and raised hunting dogs. He was a good “Story” teller and a wonderful grandfather.
Mr. Burkhead is survived by three granddaughters; Lauren, Kaitlyn, and Emily Colbert, a son-in-law, Tim Colbert of Henderson; three brothers, Tony Burkhead (Pat), Dub Burkhead and Kenneth Burkhead (Teresa) all of Henderson and a special friend, Peggy Lard of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley Austin Burkhead, August 30, 2012, his only daughter, Teresa Burkhead Colbert in 2010; three sisters, Bonnie Davis, Alice Faye Miller and Ruby Burkhead.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Clint Burkhead officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Friday. The family has requested all guest where fascial covering and exercie social distancing.
