John P. Shelly

John P. Shelly, age 82 of Middleton, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis, TN.
He was born on Saturday, January 25, 1936, to the late James P. and Lucille Dobbs Shelly in Roger Springs, TN. On Friday, July 3, 1970, he was united in marriage to Joyce Havens Shelly. Mrs. Shelly passed away December 31, 2016.
For many years, he was the owner/operator of J.P. Shelly & Sons General Store in Middleton along with his late brother, Harry, and his father. He was a member of the Middleton Church of Christ and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Mr. Shelly loved sports, New York Yankee baseball and vintage 1940's trucks. He was an All-Star in basketball at Middleton High School and played at Freed-Hardeman and Union Universities. He lived all his life in Middleton.
He is survived by his daughter, Mica Shelly Harris of Middleton; a son, Anthony Shelly of Smyrna, TN; a brother, Rubel (Myra) Shelly of Nashville; four grandchildren, John Paul Shelly, Michael Shelly, Hope Carver, and Will Harris; and four great-grandchildren, Lola Culver, Brennan Kennedy, Corbin Shelly, and Liam Harris.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Shelly was preceded in death by his son, Chris Shelly; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Mignon Shelly.
Memorial donations may be made to the Middleton Church of Christ Benevolent Fund.
