Joyce R. Hackney Theetge, 80, of Hornsby, departed this life Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The wife of George Theetge, who survives, she was a homemaker and worked as a candy striper at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in her earlier years. She was born June 21, 1941 in Bolivar, daughter of the late Solon Paul Hackney and Sadie Hurst Hackney and was a 1959 graduate of Bolivar Central High School where she played basketball. She served in the US Navy from October 1960 to December of 1961 as a Seaman Apprentice. After 2 months of dating, she married George on June 6, 1961, and worked at home, raising their family. When George retired from the service in 1968, they moved to Jackson, Tennessee and lived there until 1979, at which point they moved to Hardeman County. While at home, she enjoyed gardening and watching the hummingbirds and butterflies. Mrs. Theetge was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, to whom she had been married for 60 years, survivors include a daughter, Susan Vandiver (Mike) of Hornsby; a son, Kirk "Trapper" Theetge (Seretta) of Hornsby; a brother, John Hackney (Delaine "Woody") of Hornsby; two grandsons whom she adored, Jesse Vandiver (Ashley) and Casey Vandiver (Sheridan), both of Hornsby; a great grandchild, Jude Vandiver and 'one on the way'.
