Kerry Lee Sword

May 5, 1962 — February 10, 2022

Kerry Lee Sword departed this life on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the age of 59 years, 9 months, and 5 days. He was born in Oceanside, California on May 5, 1962, the son of the late Wanda Sue and Robert Cecil Sword. On September 25, 1981, he was united in marriage to Karla Jean Knight, who survives.

Kerry graduated El Capitan High School in 1980 and attended ETSOPM from 1988 - 1990, where he graduated as valedictorian and received the Barnaba's award. The school later became accredited, and Kerry completed classes to receive his BA in Bible.

Kerry's life work was his service to the Lord's church. He was an avid Bible student and teacher with an ability to bring the Bible to life for his students. While in Alaska, he worked with the South Anchorage church of Christ and also taught the Bible in prisons. He labored in Kiev, Ukraine for 25 years where he taught in Kiev Bible School, worked with local congregations, and helped to establish many new congregations. Some of his students went on to other countries to teach the Bible as well. Because of his efforts his influence has reached all over the world. He was "a man after God's own heart: (I Samuel 13:14).

Kerry enjoyed spending time with his family. He took the time and opportunity to educate all his children both in God’s word and secular studies. He enjoyed homeschooling them and was proud that he taught each of them how to read and write. It didn’t matter to him what they would be studying; he was always there to help them. If he didn’t know an answer, he would say he needed to do some research and he would find what they were wanting to know.

He enjoyed woodworking, studying his family genealogy, and History. More than anything, Kerry enjoyed spending with God’s word, teaching, preaching, and having studies.

His greatest achievement in life was teaching his family the Bible and watching them all become faithful Christians. When his last child became a Christian, this is how he expressed it, “How can I best describe my feelings at this moment? Perhaps the closest I can come is how the beloved Apostle John stated it in III John 4, ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.’ Her baptism completed the unity of our family in Christ. All of our children are now faithful Christians and possess the ‘one hope’ mentioned in Ephesians 4:4 and the great ‘comfort’ of I Thessalonians 4:13-18. What a great blessing and joy!”

Kerry is survived by the love of his life, best friend, soul mate, his loving wife of 40 years, Karla Jean Knight Sword; six children, Savannah (Joshua) Motl, Aaron, Christina (Micah) Robertson, Rachael, Rebecca, and Tabitha.

While we mourn the loss of this gentle soul, we take comfort in knowing that Kerry received his reward and is with our Heavenly Father whom he loved.

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
