L. C. SMITH
Henderson, TN: L. C. Smith age 78 passed away, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Smith was born June 28, 1935 in Chester County the son of the late Thomas Grady and Mamie Delaney Stinson Smith. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1954 and farmed as a young man. He married Dorothy Doyle in 1956 and they made their home in Henderson most of their married life. Mr. Smith joined the Tennessee National Guard in 1953 and served for over 40 years. He worked in the maintenance division in Henderson and Jackson and retired from the 30th Armored Brigade as Shop Chief and Master Sergeant in 1994. He had received several honors and citations from the Guard and had developed many close friends across West Tennessee while serving in the guard.
He was a member of the Sanford Hill Baptist Church and had served on the building and grounds committee for several years. He was very active in the Chester County annual Relay for Life.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; Dorothy “Dot” Smith; a son, Donald Smith and wife Rhonda and a daughter, Gayle Cox and husband David all of Henderson; four grandchildren, Jaret Hornbeak of Woonsocket, RI, Brandi Hart of Scotts Hill, Joel Cox, and Margot Cox both of Henderson and two great grandchildren, Lauron Hornbeak and Anthony Hornbeak.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Glenn Harris and Bobby Russ officiating and burial will follow with Military Honors at New Friendship Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday.
