LaWanda passed away Tuesday night at her home.
She was born in Memphis and, as a child, spent a few years in Holly Springs, MS before moving to Hardeman County where she lived the majority of her life. A 1983 graduate of Middleton High School, she received her Associate of Arts in Accounting from Jackson State Community College. LaWanda worked in accounting for the Fayette County School Board.
On February 11, 1983, she was united in marriage to John Vickers, who survives. She was an active member of the Porter's Creek Baptist Church and in her leisure time enjoyed running, Zumba, working in the yard, going to the river and traveling to Mexico. Her favorite times were moments spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 35 years, she is survived by two daughters, Ashlee (Jason) Howell of Bolivar and Allison (Evin) Lax of Bolivar; her parents, Richard (Cathie) Bourne of Grand Valley Lakes, Saulsbury, TN and Becky (Billy) Wilson of Somerville; two brothers, Ricky (Kim) Bourne of Glasgow, KY and Shane (Lauren) Bourne of Murfreesboro, TN; and four grandchildren, Carson and Collier Howell and Isabella and Paisley Lax.
Services will be officiated by Bro. Adrian Knipper and Bro. Jeremy Burnett. Serving as active pallbearers will be Steve Tigner, Jr. Fincher, Johnny Lanier, Bub Stevens, J. R. Johns and Ronnie Roda. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Powell, Scott Anderson, Harper Baddley, Rodney Lanier, Carson and Collier Howell.
