Leland Hayes Callahan was born in Saulsbury, Tennessee on June 20, 1929, living all of his life on the Callahan family farm. He was a farmer by trade but his legacy is a life well lived and will continue in the countless family members and people he mentored. He taught Sunday School at West Memorial Baptist Church for 38 years and served as a Deacon. He was a devoted husband for 73 years to his wife, Louise, who survives, a wonderful Dad to his four children, an awesome grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and countless relatives and church family. We cannot put a price on the lessons he has taught so many, honesty, loyalty, compassion and most of all love. We are forever grateful to this giant of a man and we cherish each memory. He was a 1947 graduate of Grand Junction High School.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Louise Callahan, marrying her on December 4, 1948, and celebrating 73 years together this past December. It was a wonderful love story of devotion to one another and an example for many to live by. He leaves 1 son, Roger (Betty) Callahan of Saulsbury; 2 daughters, Judy Callahan of Livingston, LA and Kay (Kline) Mengle of Bolivar; daughter in law, Rhonda Callahan of Saulsbury; 1 son who preceded him in death, Dennis Callahan, on September 6, 2021; 9 grandchildren, Ryan & Rhonda Boyd, George & Angie Ervin, Melissa & Robert Pardue, all of Bolivar, Lauren & Larry McQueen, Cory & Penny Callahan, Doug & Chastity Callahan, all of Middleton, Jeremy & Christy, Eric & Miranda Jones, all of Livingston, LA, Troy Jones of Baton Rouge, LA; 2 grandsons who preceded him in death, Paul Jones on September 20, 2007 and Christopher Everette Ervin on January 17, 2022; 32 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren with 2 'on the way', and many more relatives too numerous to count. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to West Memorial Baptist Church or Cemetery.
