Leonard Wyman Franks, Sr. was born in Pea Ridge, AL December 22, 1935, son of the late Kelly Cedron and Annie Mae Green Franks. He departed this life on October 26, 2018 in Jackson, TN at the age of 82.
He grew up in the Tifton, GA area. He spent 4 years in the US Navy serving as an airman on the USS Oriskany. After his military service, he spent his entire adult career as an interstate truck driver and traveled in every state with the exception of Alaska. He married Leah Doreen Williams on April 8, 1978. They lived in 5 different states and decided they liked Tennessee best. They moved to Chester County in 1982. He had served as an auxiliary policeman while living in Jacksonville, Florida. He was Baptist in faith. He and Leah loved children and had served as foster parents over the years. He loved driving trucks, tractors and horses. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, never met a stranger and loved to crack jokes.
He is survived by his wife Leah Franks of Reagan, TN; three sons Leonard Wyman Franks, Jr. of Foley, AL, Allan Kyle Franks (Rhonda) of Jacks Creek, Eric Earl Franks (Jenny) of Reagan; two daughters Sylvia May Franks of Foley, AL and Paula Faye Franks of Reagan; two brothers Calvin Franks (Mary Alice) of Florida, Wayne Franks (Sally) of Tifton, GA; two sisters Carolyn Goforth and Donna Maylene Duckworth both of Tifton, GA; 12 grandchildren Adrienne Azevedo, Jessica Bailey, Paul Clark, Chason Franks, Carah Lewis, Leslie Wyatt, Kelly Franks, John Tidwell, Faith Rogers, Elijah Franks, Hayden Franks, Cassie Klein; 15 great grandchildren Kyle and Madison Azevedo, Lauren Henson, Brayden Henson, Braxton Clark, Brenton Clark, Brylon Clark, Brealynn Franks, Emma Franks, Lily Franks, Colton Lewis, Luke, Jacob and Brennan Wyatt and Colby Barnes.
A Memorial Service will be held 5:00 P.M. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s East Main Chapel with Donald Franks officiating.
The family will receive friends at East Main on Saturday from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. service time.
