Lillie Mae Smith Hilliard

Lillie Mae Smith Hilliard, age 88, wife of the late Nova D. Hilliard, departed this life Saturday morning, June 29, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Somerville, TN.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hilliard will be on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 5:00 pm at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Whiteville, TN. Rev. David Peace officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 4:00 pm, Wednesday. Arrangements provided by Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar, TN.

Lillie was born November 2, 1930, the daughter of the late Annie Mae and Alec Parker. She received her education in Hardeman County public schools and was married on June 1, 1947 to Nova D. Hilliard. Mr. Hilliard preceded her in death on February 27, 2009.

She was a former resident of Whiteville and Hickory Withe for many years. Lillie was employed as a nursing assistant for many years before retiring to travel with her husband.

She was a member of the Mr. Moriah Baptist Church in the Mt. Moriah community of Fayette County.

Mrs. Hilliard is survived by her son Aubrey Hilliard of Oakland, TN; daughter, Patricia Hill (Tommy) of Amity, AR and daughter, Faye Perkins (Kenneth) of Eads, TN; son, Jim Hilliard (Beverly) of Whiteville, TN, and daughter-in-law, Jackie Hilliard of Bolivar, TN; 12 grandchildren, Chanel Ward, Aundrea Starnes, Troy Gullett, Kimberly Rowe, Lisa Hilliard, Wesley Gullett, Bubba Hilliard, Christie Birmingham, Tyler Hilliard, Amber Hilliard, Charlie Allison and Michael Hilliard; 21 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Hilliard; sisters, Margie Jackson and Geraldine Hadley; brothers, Hermin, Farris, James and Otho Smith; and daughter-in-law, Barbra Hilliard.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 2890 Mt. Moriah Road, Whiteville, TN 38075.
