Lindsay Rena Mathis Pope

June 20, 1979 — October 12, 2018

Lindsay Rena Mathis Pope was born June 20th 1979 in Lawrence County, TN and was the oldest daughter of Lewis Allen and Nancy Mathis. Lindsay grew up in the Phillips Chapel community with her parents and sisters, Leah and Katie. Lindsay accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at 10 years of age and was a member of Green River Baptist Church. She was a 1997 graduate of Wayne County High School. After high school, she attended Martin Methodist College in Pulaski and in 2005, she received her Licensed Practical Nursing certification, working locally as an LPN. Lindsay married Bryan Pope July 17, 2004 and they later built a home on the family farm on Pope Circle in north Wayne County.

In addition to her parents and husband Bryan, Lindsay leaves behind her daughter, Savana Grace Ayers and two sons, Boston Wayne and Brandon Wyatt Pope, her sisters, Leah Skipworth (husband Jeremy) and Katie Pierson (fiancee David Carroll). Lindsay was the granddaughter of Patricia (Patty) Mathis of Waynesboro and the the late Edward (Tubby) Mathis and Albert and Irene Kelley.


Lindsay was recently inducted into the 2018 Dixie Youth Softball Hall of Fame for her contributions as a player, coach and league official. She was also serving the Waynesboro Youth Football League as Secretary. Lindsay's legacy will be remembered always thru the parents and children she served in Wayne County at Lil Rascals Day Care, a licensed day care she began in 2015 which will now be called Lindsay's Lil Rascals.

In July, 2018 Lindsay was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and after a brief sickness, went home to be with our Lord on October 12, 2018. Lindsay's life, although brief, was a life well lived and abundantly filled with faith, family and friendship.

Services will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Kerry Franks, Jay Clanton and N.J. Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 13, 5:30--9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 14, 11:00 am until service time at Shackelford Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
