Lois M. Stamey

Lois Stamey, age 88 of Hornsby, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018.

She was born Lois Cubia Dean Motley on April 17, 1930. She was the fifth of six children born to John M. and Nancy Motley.

She grew up farming and attended schools in Tennessee. She fell in love with and married Aaron Dalton Stamey in 1947 in Walnut, MS.The couple moved to Knoxville in 1952 and lived there many years before returning to Bolivar, TN in 1962 and finally settling in Hornsby, TN where she lived for the rest of her life.

Lois farmed during the early years of her marriage then went to work for both Eastern and Western State hospitals. In 1988, she retired and was recognized for over 35 years of loyal and outstanding service by Governor Ned McWherter of Tennessee.

SHe was an outdoors woman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Lois, loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She leaves behind her husband of 71 years Aaron D. Stamey; her son, Wendell(Faye) and granddaughter, Aaron L. Stamey, all of Silerton, TN. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and a foster son, Jerry Thorton, who preceded her in death.

Services will be held at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar with David Howell of Piney Grove Baptist Church officiating.

Burial was at Harmony Cemetery in Walnut, MS.
