Louis C. Bray of Hernando, Mississippi, formerly of Waynesboro, was born March 11, 1920 in Cerro Gordo, TN the son of the late William Riley and Carrie May Yerby Bray. Mr. Bray died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at his home in Hernando, Mississippi at the age of 94 Years, 11 Months, 14 Days. He was married to Reba Louise Pope Bray May 21, 1949 and she preceded him in death September 29, 2003. Mr. Bray entered the U.S. Army May 23, 1942. He served in World War II in the 130th infantry dvision achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant prior to being released June 5, 1946. Over the years he and his family lived in numerous locations including Memphis, TN, Paducah, KY, and Waynesboro, TN. Mr. Bray was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority as a painter. He also served in numerous organizations including International Union of Painter and Allied Trades and Tennessee Valley Authority Retirees Association. While living in Waynesboro he was a member of Waynesboro Masonic Lodge #127. After relocating to Mississippi he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Norman Lewis Bray of Drummonds, TN, a daughter, Nancy Marie Bray Franklin of Hernando, MS, five grandchildren, Catherine Ashley Deyling, Peter Andrew Franklin, Laura Allison Rollins, John Hunter Bray, Adam Tyler Bray, four great grandchildren, David Henry Deyling, Matthew Edgar Rollins, William Crawford Rollins, and Elizabeth Grace Bray, a sister, Peggy Ann Pierre of Petal, MS, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bray was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Robert Riley, and Thomas Edward Bray, five sisters, Rubye Beckham, Alma Marie Keene, Mary Emma Rash, Helen Josephine Thomas, and Nina Sue Shereck.
Services will be Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Waynesboro with Jerry Robbins officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the North Highland Cemetery near Waynesboro with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
