Mackie Austin Welch was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, on December 29, 1947 to the late Arnold L. and Virginia Covington Austin. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee.
Mackie, being a daughter of an Air Force Veteran, lived in various places as she was growing up. In 1968, she moved to Hardin County and made her home there until her death. Mackie was a licensed beautician as well as a former substitute teacher. She had also been a florist at Someplace Special. Mackie loved making jewelry, flower gardening and working in her yard, and helping anyone in need.
Mackie departed this life on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 5 days. She is survived by her son, Jeff Welch and his wife Cindy of Franklin, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Welch; three sisters, Rita Barnhill and Terry Griswell both of Savannah, Tennessee, and Julia Bridges of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; a brother, Tommy Austin of Jacks Creek, Tennessee, and the father of her son, Larry Welch of Savannah, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents, Mackie was preceded in death by her sister, Pattie Adams.
