Maggie Mae "Peggie" Cockrell Brown departed this life on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at the age of 95 years, 4 months, and 8 days. She was born in Kenly, North Carolina, on November 21, 1924, the daughter of the late James and Nettie Godwin Cockrell. She was united in marriage to Willie Ashley Brown, who preceded her in death.
Peggie, as she was affectionately known, lived in the Atlanta, Georgia area since 1945 up until 2013 when she moved to the Hardin County, Tennessee. In her lifetime, she had worked as a seamstress, piano teacher, biscuit maker at McDonald's, and she had also worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, First United Methodist Church in Savannah, Tennessee. Peggie was very active in church, playing the piano and teaching Sunday school for over 50 years. In her spare time she enjoyed, reading, working puzzles, crafts of all types, crocheting, and playing piano.
Peggie is survived by her children, Teresa King and her husband David of Conyers, Georgia, Dr. Ron Brown and his wife Sharon of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kristy Wilson, Leigh Hamilton, Jonathan Brown, Christy Jookjen, and Ben King; great grandchildren, Connor Hamilton, Trevor Hamilton, Christina Day, Lee Summerford, and Ashley Summerford; and great-great grandchildren, Jayleigh Day and Brandon Day.
In addition to her parents and husband, Peggie was preceded in death by her siblings, Bertha Davis, Sallie Ann, Erastus Cockrell, Jarvis Cockrell, Roscoe Cockrell, Estelle Holland, Gladys Balance, Odessa, and two infant siblings.
