Major Dorothy Joyce Roberts Pope

June 18, 1940 — December 23, 2020

Major Dorothy Joyce Roberts Pope was born June 18, 1940 in Huntington, NY the daughter of the late Elwood Roberts and Rose E. D'Alise Roberts Wisniewski. She was united in marriage to Major N.J. Pope on March 10, 1972. She was retired from the Salvation Army where she ministered for years. In addition to the Salvation Army, she also served as Housemother of children's homes in North Carolina and New Jersey as well as being Director and house mother at Martha Graham Children's Home in Sumter, SC. She was also a member of the Salvation Army Southern Territory and attends Waynesboro First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pope departed this life on December 23, 2020 in Waynesboro, Tennessee making her stay in this life some 80 Years, 6 Months and 5 Days.

She is survived by her husband Major N.J. Pope of Waynesboro, TN; a son, Jason Pope and wife Kelly of Cheverly, MD; a daughter, Robin Pope of Waynesboro, TN; two sisters, Carol Joy Mahood and husband James Robert of The Villages, FL, Audrey Jean Ruttura and husband Domenick Thomas Ruttura of Huntington, NY; three grandchildren, Sydney, Carter and Blakely Pope.

Services will be held on Sunday December 27, 2020 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Major Keath Biggers officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens at Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors Assisting.
