Martha Nelle Hindman Booker

December 29, 1939 — January 21, 2018

Martha Nelle Hindman Booker was born December 29, 1939 to her parents, the late Haskell Edward Hindman and Sybil Aline Dickerson Hindman, in the Childers Hill Community of Hardin County, Tennessee.

Martha passed away from this life January 21, 2018, at Magnolia Regional Hospital, Corinth, Mississippi, at the age of 78 years and 23 days.

She married her High School sweetheart, Jeff Booker, September 27, 1959. They were school mates from the 1st grade though the 12th grade. They were graduates of the Class of '57, South Side, Pickwick. They attended Hardin County schools at Childers Hill, Southside Consolidated, Shiloh, and Southside High School. Martha was the Valedictorian of the Class of '57.

Martha leaves behind her husband of 58 years, Jeff Booker; two sons, Trent Booker and his wife Leelee Haraway Booker of Senatobia, Mississippi, and Barry Booker and his wife Lynn Bearden Booker of White House, Tennessee; grandchildren, Molly Booker Segars and her husband Samuel, Nathan Booker and Dylan Booker, both of White House, Tennessee, Lucia Booker and Sophia Booker, both of Senatobia, Mississippi; a sister, Nancy Davis and her husband Johnny of Olive Branch, Mississippi; two nephews, Kirk Davis of Phoenix, Arizona and Kevin Davis of Jackson, Tennessee; and a niece, Kelly Shifflett of Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Martha lived most of her life in Hardin County, Tennessee, with the exception of a brief period out of High School when she worked with the FBI in a clerical position in Washington, D.C., and also for a brief period near Ft. Hood, Texas, while Jeff was in the military. She was employed at the Hardin County General Hospital for a period of 3 years, and then spent 37 years as a Social Worker with the Tennessee Department of Human Services. She retired for 18 years and enjoyed being at home, attending the Savannah Church of Christ, being with family and friends, shopping, especially at Christmas, and not being in a hurry.

Martha was a great cook being noted for her Caramel Pound Cake. It was always welcome at any luncheon, and never any left uneaten.

Martha was loved and admired for good life, friendly disposition, and her concern for others. She leaves her loving family, a host of friends and will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a contribution to the Savannah Church of Christ, 1175 Pickwick Street S, Savannah, TN 38372 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
