MARY FAYE STANFILL
Mary Faye Stanfill, 101, passed away July 5, 2017.
She was born January 3, 1916 in Adamsville, TN, daughter of William Franklin Wall and Eva McBride Wall.
Her family moved to Henderson when Mary Faye was 8 years old. She attended Freed-Hardeman College, taught at Mifflin School, married her friend since childhood, Newton Bailey Stanfill. They were wed 54 years until his death July 1991.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Latham and four brothers. One brother survives, William “Mack” Wall. Other survivers include her son, Dr. William Wilson (Bill) Stanfill (Shirley) of Leland, MS, a daughter, Linda Kirk Hamm of Selmer, 5 grandsons, Stan Kirk, Bailey (Melanie) Kirk, Will (Vera) Stanfill, Stephen (Nancy) Stanfill, Richard (Stephanie) Stanfill, 18 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was employed with Chester County Welfare Dept. as worker, then as Director for many years.
Her last employment was with Madison County Welfare, helping to establish their Child Abuse Program.
Rewarding events for her included helping families with adoptions and helping families in need following the 1952 Henderson tornado.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Henderson, where she served as church pianist and Sunday School teacher. She later was a Charter member of Grace Baptist Church. Her musical talents were shared with other churches and community events.
Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with burial in Henderson City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Baptist Church, First Baptist Church or Samaritan’s Purse.
