Mary Warf, 88, of Somerville, departed this life Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at NHC Healthcare in Somerville.
She was born February 10, 1932 in the Laconia/Somerville area, daughter of the late Sam and Verlie Hoskins Pulliam. When she was 12 years old, her mother passed away and she took on the responsibility of raising herself and her 3 siblings, making sure their homework was done, while cooking and cleaning. She played basketball while in school and was known for always taking care of someone's children. She worked as a nurses aide at Methodist Somerville Hospital for 20 years. She married W.R. Abernathy in 1950 and he passed away in 1993. She later married James Albert Warf in the late 1990's and he survives her. Mrs. Warf was a member of Bolivar Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, James Albert Warf of Somerville; a daughter, Mary Seals (Raymond) of Somerville; a brother, Laverne Pulliam of Richmond, VA; 7 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Terry Brock and Melba Burcham; a sister, Betty Griffin and a brother, Chester Pulliam, Sr.
While visiting or attending services for Mrs. Warf, please consider the following guidelines:
* Maintain 6 feet between yourself and the next closest person;
* Refrain from hugs and handshakes;
* When you sneeze or cough, use your elbow to cover your nose and mouth;
* Wash your hands often;
* Avoid touching your face; and
* Minimize time spent in places where people gather.
