Melba Horton Helton was born in McNairy County, Tennessee on September 20, 1936 the daughter of the late Seph and Carrie Pounds Horton.
She was united in marriage to Wayne Helton on May 28, 1955. Mr. Helton preceded her in death on August 4, 1994.
Mrs. Helton graduated from Selmer High School on May 12, 1955. She played all sports, basketball being her favorite. She played basketball at Stantonville Junior High for three years and then two years at Selmer High School. She worked for Garan in Adamsville for 24 years doing several different jobs while there. She worked from home printing advertising logos and caps for Helton Enterprises. Along with her husband, they sold Electrolux vacuum cleaners.
She was a fine seamstress making her clothes and for others in the community. She enjoyed quilting, all different kinds of crafts and jewelry. She prided herself in maintaining her home and lawn.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Helton was preceded in death by her son, Anthony W. Helton; brothers, Claude Horton, Lester Lee Horton, Richard Horton and James Killingsworth; sisters, Bonnie Barnes and Ruby McDaniel.
Mrs. Helton departed this life on February 6, 2018 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 4 Months, 17 Days. She is survived by ten nieces; one nephew; a sister-in-law; and a host of extended family and friends.
