"Paw" Melvin Clinton Benson departed this life on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 5 days. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on December 18, 1934, the son of the late Arch D. and Lue Austin Benson. On January 16, 1960, he was united in marriage to Margie Austin, who survives.
Melvin Clinton had been employed with Bevis Custom tables for 17 years and Florence Packing House for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, treasure hunting, gardening, playing pool, bee keeping, and especially spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Melvin Clinton is survived by his wife of 60 years, "Maw" Margie Benson of Savannah, Tennessee; children, Dennis Benson and Connie Benson, both of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Justina Weston (Les), Courtney Smith (Colt), and Isaiah Benson; great grandchildren, Everett Weston, Grady Weston, Brilee Smith, and Bristol Smith; brother, Stanley Benson of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Jeannie Mitchell of Savannah, Tennessee, Gladys Winslow of Jackson, Tennessee, Reba Moore and Bessie Smith, both of Savannah, Tennessee; special nephew, Bennett Austin of Savannah, Tennessee; and special great nephew, Logan Austin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Calvin Benson, Willard Benson, and Jerry Benson; and sisters, Dessie Taylor, Peggy Edwards, and Rubye Stark.
