Nell Jo Derryberry York

Nell Jo Derryberry York was born March 8, 1941 in Hurley, TN the daughter of the late Troy and Adelaide Fulton Derryberry.

She was united in marriage to Marvin Lee York on November 19, 1959. Mr. York preceded her in death on March 13, 2013, following 53 years of marriage.

Nell graduated from Ramer High School in 1959. She worked as a beautician for many years and served as the Chewalla Baptist Church custodian for 16 years. Nell assisted with many fundraising activities to benefit the Chewalla Volunteer Fire Department, and was a faithful member of Chewalla Baptist Church. One of her favorite activities was working in her yard and caring for her flowers as long as her health permitted. In recent years she found pleasure watching the birds in her back yard. Nell adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with family and friends.

Nell departed this life on August 22, 2018 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 77 Years, 5 Months, 14 Days. She is survived by two daughters, Kristy Hopkins of Corinth, MS and Robin Gafford and husband Richard of Chewalla, TN; two sons, Jeff York and Mark York and wife Robin, all of Chewalla, TN; six grandchildren: Maegan Faulkner, Lacey Chappell and husband Logan, Adrianne Whitten and husband Christopher, Austin Gafford and wife Leigh, Victoria York, and Kyndle York; nine great-grandchildren: Lexie Faulkner, Brantley Faulkner, Hallie Faulkner, Brooklyn Hopkins, Zaiden Chappell, Camden Chappell, Cohen Chappell, Laken Whitten, and London Whitten; a sister, Kat Teague of Fayetteville, GA; a brother, Adrian Derryberry and wife Sharon of Madison, MS; and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Nell was preceded in death by a son, Paul York; three grandchildren: Allison Gafford, Kayla York, and Fulton York; a brother, Tub Derryberry; and a brother-in-law, Jim Teague.

Memorial contributions in memory of Nell may be made to Chewalla Baptist Church.
