Graveside services for Mrs. Nelle Black Ross, age 103, of Bolivar, will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Union Cemetery in Bolivar. Rev. Blake White will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar. Mrs. Ross passed from this life Thursday night, August 22, 2019, at West Hills Health and Rehab in Knoxville.
She was born on Thursday, December 16, 1915, in Whiteville, the daughter of the late Monroe Livingston and Viola Holloway Black and lived most of her life in Hardeman County. On October 25, 1939, she married Mr. Fitts Alexander Ross. Mr. Ross died March 1, 1994 following 54 years of marriage. In 1998, Mrs. Ross moved to Gallatin, TN where she lived until moving to Knoxville in 2015. She was a homemaker and member of the Bolivar First United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau Ladies’ Auxiliary. In her leisure time, Mrs. Ross enjoyed handwork including needlepoint.
She leaves her daughter, Nelda Ross Maxwell and her husband, Thomas, of Knoxville; her sons, Larry A. Ross of Bolivar and William F. Ross and his wife, Ann Marie, of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Mike Ross (Renee’) of Counce, John Ross of Bolivar, Holly Maxwell Webb (Patrick) of Knoxville, Kingsley Ross Andrews (Mark) of Houston, TX and Barrett J. Ross (Edyta), also of Houston; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Memorials may be sent to the Bolivar Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
