Oscar Neal Burks

OSCAR NEAL BURKS

was born in Lutts, Tennessee on March 21, 1949 the son of Virginia Francis Harville Harmon and the late William Sid Burks.

Neal was a retired truck driver, pulling mobile homes for William Transport and A & G Trucking for 20 years. He worked all of his life, owning several different businesses; Neal's Cafe, dozer and dump truck business, and Neal's Lawn Service. Neal also built houses and even built his own boat to run the river for muscle shells. He developed and processed all the land on Burks Road. Neal loved to garden and grow things, his favorites were fruit trees and flowers of all kinds. He was up early every morning on his tractor, plowing and hoeing, and would have a days work done by 8 a.m.

In his spare time he loved to watch TV, especially westerns, which he could watch 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Neal loved spending time with his grandchildren and had a special love for his great grandchildren. His greatest love was for Jesus and reading the Bible, witnessing for the Lord anytime and any place he could, it did not matter. Neal pastored at Covey Chapel Church and several different churches, and attended Love and Truth Church in Adamsville, Tennessee.

Neal departed this life on February 28, 2019 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 7 days.

In addition to his mother, Frances Harmon of Savannah, Tennessee, Neal is survived by his former wife and beloved friend, Joyce Burks of Savannah, Tennessee, together they had four children, Cody Burks and his wife Star and Matthew Burks, all of Savannah, Tennessee and two sons, who preceded him in death, Mark and Luke Burks. He is also survived by his former wife and beloved friend, Kathy Burks of Savannah, Tennessee, together they had two daughters, Tammy Burks Harris and Amanda Burks, both of Savannah, Tennessee. Along with his children, he is survived by a special friend, Dane Pickens, whom he thought of like a son; grandchildren, Rocky Bonee, Tiffany Bonee, Kristina Harris, Bethany Oakley, Addy Burks and Brantley Burks, all of Savannah, Tennessee; great grandchildren, Braydon Frazier, Brennon Frazier, Camden Bonee, July Bonee, Bailey Pickens and Cooper Nixon, all of Savannah, Tennessee; brothers, Travis Burks and his wife Linda, Don Harmon and his wife Cindy, and Ebb Harmon and his significant other, Stephanie Hancock, all of Savannah, Tennessee; sister in law, Gloria Burks of Savannah, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his father and two sons, Neal was preceded in death by his grandparents, Minnie May Hunt Harville, James Carl Harville, also known as Pap, Ed Burks and Ruth Brown Burks, one brother, Jimmy Burks and one grandchild, Emily Donielle Bonee.
