Phyllis Hopper Naylor

Phyllis Hopper Naylor, age 74, of Silerton, departed this life early Saturday morning, February 24, 2018 at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Bolivar.

The wife of Bobby Naylor, who survives, she was a homemaker and also worked as a Postmaster for the Silerton Community for 25 years, most of that out of her kitchen. She was born October 16, 1943, in Silerton, daughter of the late Burdon Fuller Hopper and Ima Frances Wilson Hopper and lived all of her life in the Silerton area. She married Bobby Naylor on June 17, 1961, and was blessed with two children. A community minded soul, she served as a former mayor for Silerton in the late 1970's and early 1980's and kept the books for the city. She was instrumental in getting natural gas for Silerton and, along with her husband, was able to procure water for Silerton from the Selmer area. She also was heavily involved with the Silerton Fire Department. She was described by her family as loving to always be outside doing things and was often seen riding her four-wheeler or mowing grass. She was just as active in her church, Silerton Baptist, volunteering to do anything needed, including bringing neighborhood children to services, teaching Sunday School and cleaning the church, a trait she instilled in her daughter.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Todd Naylor (Joyce) of Henderson; a daughter, Tammy Foote (Mark) of Henderson; two sisters, Gene Shearon of Grand Junction and Vonda Siler of Silerton; three grandchildren, Matt and John Tyler Harris and Drew Naylor; and one great grandchild, Siler Jack Harris. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Silerton Baptist Church Cemetery.
