Raymond Lee Benton was born May 26, 1925 in Shinewell, OK the son of the late Hurley Lee and Thelma Lee Flowers Benton.
He was united in marriage to Emma Lee Moore on May 26, 1952. Mrs. Benton preceded him in death on June 8, 2005.
Mr. Benton was a boilermaker by trade and a soldier by heart. He served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army and Air Force. While serving, he received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Upon separation from the military, Raymond had reached the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Benton was a natural storyteller and a cowboy. He stories were rich and full of details. He was an avid fan of John Wayne westerns. He loved his hats, the occasional bolo tie or western scarf and his boots. He was very proud to have been both a cowboy and veteran.
Mr. Benton departed this life on April 9, 2019 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 93 Years, 10 Months, 24 Days. He is survived by two daughters, Shelia Williams of Bethel Springs, TN, Debra Marlett and companion Jerry Sullivan of Rochester, NY; a son, Buster Benton and wife Cindy of Marion, AR; 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Benton was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Ward.
