Henderson: Raymond Talbot Denton Herndon, age 78, passed away Thursday afternoon March 18, 2021 at Jackson General Hospital.

Mr. Herndon was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up in Dearborn, MI, the son of the late Raymond Lawrence Denton and Alice Christine Conrad Herndon and Harrison Derry Herndon, who adopted Ray at a young age. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn and attended Henry Ford College. He entered the U. S. Navy and served during the Vietnam Era. He later play hockey for the Detroit Red Wings and also coached hockey. He married Jane Moore in 1983. They had made their home in Henderson for the past 28 years. He was a production scheduler and planner at ITT Grinnell where he retired. After retirement he worked part time for Dr. David Magee, DDS in Henderson and Dr. John Crowder, DDS in Jackson.

Mr. Herndon enjoyed yard work and researching genealogy. He was a fan of Detroit Tigers baseball, Detroit Redwings hockey, and The University of Michigan, “Go Blue”.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and The Sons of The American Revolution Chapter in Henderson.

He is survived by his wife Jane Moore Herndon of Henderson, a daughter Jill Shelby, a son Jeff Herndon both of Michigan and a step-son Wade Hood and wife Leigh of Booneville, MS, a sister Sallye Fagala of St. Louis and five grandchildren.

Due to the COVID pandemic there will be a private family service Sunday afternoon at Shackelford Funeral Directors Crook Avenue Chapel with Bro. Bobby Russ officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, Pinson, TN.
