Rolland Villard (R. V. ) Hendrix was born June 18, 1926 in Wayne Co., TN the son of the late James Thomas and Mattie Odella Keeton Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix died Monday, April 21, 2014 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 87 Years, 10 Months, 3 Days. Mr. Hendrix, a World War II veteran, served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. On April 30, 1950 he was married to Doris Givens. He was a retired member of Iron Workers Local 477 in Sheffield, AL and a member of Bethel Berry Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Doris Givens Hendrix, two sons, James Rolland Hendrix and wife Lesia, and Jerry Lee Hendrix and wife Dillian all of Iron City, TN, a daughter, Sherry Lynn Holloway and husband Paul of Waterloo, AL, five grandchildren, James Eric Hendrix, Rebecca Alice Hendrix, Jessica Lee Hendrix, Christopher Paul Holloway and wife Kristy, and Carey Seth Holloway and wife April, four great grandchildren, Michala Holloway, Cambria Holloway, Nathaniel Holloway, and Tori Holloway. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hendrix was preceded in death by brothers, J.T., Vernon, Lester, Oval, and Clyde Hendrix, sisters, Lela Holt, Earline Hines, Vernice Thompson, and Ethel Purser.
Services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Collinwood with Jerry Campbell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Collinwood Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24th from 1:30 PM until service time at 3:00 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Danny Stutts, Grady Stutts, Robert Miller, Lanny Kelley, Micahel Elliot, Tristan Lash, Devon West, and Ronnie Balentine, hononary pallbearers are the men of Bethel Berry Church of Christ.
