Ronald Gene Tucker

August 21, 1940 — November 10, 2018

Ronald Gene Tucker, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on November 10, 2018, at the age of 78 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents Crawford Lee Tucker and Edna Lauretta Post Tucker of Fort Scott, KS, his wife of 39 years Linda Lee Mitchem Tucker of Chanute, KS and by his brother Gary Lee Tucker of Memphis, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Ramsey Tucker, of Somerville, TN, his children, Jeffrey Lee Tucker and Robert Gary Tucker of Chanute, KS and Lori Dian Tucker Keller (Andrew) of Wichita, KS and by his grandchildren Samantha Lee Tucker, Jessica LeeAnn Tucker, Rachel Diane Tucker, Garrett Don Strobel and step-grandchildren Tyler James Keller and Megan Renee Keller.

He was a 1958 graduate of Fort Scott High School. He went on to earn a Bachelors of Science education degree at Pittsburg State University, and he earned a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from Emporia State University. He was a high school guidance counselor at Chanute High School for many years. He later went on to work for the State of Kansas as an Environmental Technician.

He never missed an episode of Gunsmoke because he was afraid Matt and Festus couldn’t make it without him. He could dice green peppers finer than any human being. He always had plenty of sage advice for his kids and their friends. Always! As our cousin put it so well, he was a man that gave more than he took.

He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (Platoon Sergeant) with the Kansas Army National Guard where he served for 35 years. In this position, he traveled to Costa Rica, Belize, Honduras, and several other countries and many states, making the world a better place everywhere he went.

Funeral services will take place at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS, on Monday December 3rd, at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Tom Eastman officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following in the church basement. Memorials can be sent to: The Memphis Coin Club, PO Box 40572, Memphis, TN 38174-0572; or The First Christian Church, 102 N.
