Ruby Jones DeShazier departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2019, at the age of 96 years and 2 days. She was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, on April 4, 1923, the daughter of the late Robert and Dona Hopper Jones. On June 7, 1939, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Lesley DeShazier, who preceded her in death on February 25, 1988.
Ruby had worked for Paris Manufacturing where she made toy guns and was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Savannah, Tennessee. She was a homemaker at heart. Ruby made sure there was food on the table for her family and any visitors that might stop by. She was a wonderful seamstress, even teaching herself to make clothes for herself and her girls. Her sewing skills didn't stop there, she learned to quilt and used those skills to make quilts for her family and for benefits in the community. Ruby loved to be out in her garden and her flower beds. She enjoyed being helpful, and would do whatever she could for her neighbors, friends, and her loved ones...that is how Ruby should be remembered, as a blessed soul.
She leaves to honor her memory, her children, Gilbert Odie DeShazier of Adamsville, Tennessee, Junior Lee DeShazier, Ethel Mae Morris, Della C. Melson, and Inez Wilkerson, all of Savannah, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Jo Harris, Dorothy Frazier, and Dovie Franks, all of Savannah, Tennessee; and brothers, Billy Jones and Bobby Jones, both of Savannah, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her children, Wheeler DeShazier and Edith Logan; grandchild, Patty Britt; great grandchild, Austin Blake-Riley Melson; sister, Gladys Tidwell; and brothers, Robert Earl Jones, Jimmy Jones, Kenneth Jones, James Jones, and Elmer Jones.
