Rubye Brewer Anderson

November 2, 1923 — August 18, 2018

Rubye Brewer Anderson, a child of God, went home to be with her Lord on August 18, 2018. Rubye was born on November 2, 1923 to the late Frank L. and Jimmie Grace Brewer. She was the sixth of 12 siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. Rubye was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, James Richard Anderson. Jim and Rubye had three children Marilyn Anderson Jordan (the late Gary) of Nashville, James Thomas Anderson (Jade) of Columbia, and Martha Anderson Clark (Ken), of Cookeville. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jason Jordan (Michelle), Kelli Jordan, Heather Winchester (Jon), Jamie Anderson, Rachel Anderson Basham (Brett), Seth Anderson (Emily), the late Jeremy Fortner (Lici), Joseph David Fortner (Misty), Mari Beth Fortner Wilson (Tim) and 22 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her much pride and joy.

Jim and Rubye lived throughout the country as Jim's job was with new construction before settling down in Waverly, TN in 1959. They were very active in the Waverly Church of Christ. Rubye was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) but retired from First American Bank ( (Citizens Bank, US Bank) with 20 years service. Rubye was very involved in social and political issues serving as President and member of the Family and Community Education Program (FCE) in Waverly and Waynesboro, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past Treasurer of Wayne County Historical Society, served on the South Central TN Advisory Council on Aging and Disability, member of the Ladies in Pink Society, Charter member Captain John Henry Culp Chapter 2577, United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Wayne County Republican Ladies Club.

Rubye was dedicated to God and lived a life that was pleasing to Him. She was kind, generous, and helpful to her parents, family and friends. She was devoted to her husband and took care of him in his final years. It was evident in her words and actions that she loved her family. We loved her and will miss her greatly.

Services will be at Shackelford Funeral Chapel in Waynesboro, TN Tuesday at 1:00 PM with Mitchell Skelton and Gregg Lee officiating. Interment following services in Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Home, directing. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM until services at the funeral home.

Rubye supported many causes and she asked that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, TX or the Waynesboro Church of Christ.

"I am the light of the world; he who follows Me, will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

Throughout life we all experience difficulties, keeping our eyes on Jesus will always lead us home.
