Sammy Lee Bowers was born March 26, 1942 in Michie, TN the son of the late Cecil Autry Bowers and Belvia Marie Calvery Bowers.
Mr. Bowers was a retired tool and die maker and businessman. He owned and operated the Bowers Body Shop in Michie, TN. He was a former Mayor of Michie and a former McNairy County Sheriff's Deputy. He was a member of Michie First Baptist Church. Sammy was a life-long lover of cars. He owned a drag racer and spent many hours rebuilding cars in his body shop. For one of his last projects, he was proud to present his oldest grandson with a rebuilt 1987 pickup for his sixteenth birthday.
His friends knew him for his hard work; he never shunned a task and was never afraid to break a sweat. They knew him for his generous spirit; he would lend whatever he had and give a hand any time of day. They knew him for his sense of humor; his co-workers knew his pranks, and his kids knew his stories. Sammy died peacefully at home on September 11, 2018 at the age of 76 Years, 5 Months, 16 Days.
On August 27, 1960, he was wed to and is now survived by Anne Qualls Bowers. Other survivors are son John S. Bowers and spouse Karen Wilmeth Bowers of Ramer, TN; daughter Cheryl A. Bowers and spouse David Dietrich of Jackson, TN; three grandchildren, Jacob Bowers Dietrich, Seth Franklin Bowers, and Sophie Grace Bowers; along with a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be held on September 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, TN with James Hardin and Ben Martin officiating. Visitation will be held at Shackelford in Selmer beginning at 9:00 AM before the service. Burial will follow in the Michie Cemetery at Michie, TN.
