Sarah Tull Chandler, 98, of Bolivar, departed this life Sunday, February 28.
Mrs. Chandler worked assembly at Harman Automotive for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was born Tuesday, December 19, 1922 in Hardeman County, daughter of the late Joseph Newton Tull and Mirtie Leona Howell Tull, living all of her life here. She married Joseph William Chandler on July 31, 1943 in Montpelier, Vermont, while he was in the military, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1997. She served her community as a City Alderman for many years. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, quilting and embroidery, but especially loved going to church and reading her Bible. She was known to babysit for all her family and friends, even her great grandchildren. Mrs. Chandler was raised in Piney Grove Baptist Church and later was a member of Silerton Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Dillard and Carolyn Vales, both of Bolivar and Donna Scobey of Friendship; five grandchildren, Deborah Delaine Dillard, Jeffrey Chandler Vales, Jason Lee Vales, Attlia Elise Compton and Woodrow Danny Compton, III; 12 great grandchildren, Thomas Cody Naylor, Mathew James Dillard, Samantha Elise Stearns, Kelsey Elise Compton, Keyan Daniel Vales, Lily Grace Barnett, Sarah Brooke Naylor, Robyn Lynn Dillard, John Derick Stearns, Rylan Dales Vales, Zoe Kathrine Vales and Colton Garatt Compton; and three great great grandchildren, Ramsey Kate Naylor, Amara Lambert and Tatum Dailey; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bill Dillard; and brothers and sisters, Vina Harwell, Kydell Orr, Edith Rock, Gorland Tull, John A. Tull, George Tull, Nell Willis, Nema Ballard, Howell Tull, Geraldine Ballard and Sue Hatch.
Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Silerton Baptist Church Cemetery or the Gideons International.
