Shirel Lynn (Whitten) Dickey

Shirel Lynn (Whitten) Dickey, age 62 years, a resident of Vienna, IL and a former resident of Selmer and Yuma, TN, passed away Monday morning, December 16, 2019, at 2:23 AM at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.

Shirel was born January 28, 1957 in Peoria, IL. She was the daughter of the late Wade Foy and Mary Joyce (Carothers) Whitten.

Shirel is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Flynn of Alton, IL; a son, Terry Dickey, Jr. of the State of Washington; 3 grandchildren, Caitlyn Flynn, Sophie Dickey, Brayden Dickey; 3 sisters, Mary J. Dunaway Casper of Vienna, IL, Claudette Dunaway Murray and Carla Whitten Garner, both of Selmer, TN; a brother, Presley Whitten of Milan, TN; a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirel was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Richard Glenn Dunaway and Jeffery Whitten.

Shirel was the former co-owner and operator of the Sonic Restaurant in Huntingdon, TN. She also had worked as an Aide at the former McNairy County Hospital as well as having been employed as a cook by Tennessee Refreshments in Lexington, TN.

Shirel was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed making crafts and handwork such as needlepoint. She also worked jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader.
